PROCEDURES FOR NOMINATING NEW MEMBERS

Membership is by invitation only. The Membership Committee confidentially reviews all applications and proposes candidates to the Board for approval. Please see the GCW By-Laws for more details regarding nominating new Members. Please download and complete the Admissions Questionnaire for the Candidate you would like to propose.

To be eligible for Membership an individual should:

  • have a garden in which an active personal interest is taken and/or be actively interested in floral design, horticulture, conservation or photography, and

  • be willing and able to sustain the goals of the Club and have the time to participate regularly in the Club’s activities and programs.

Nominations for Membership, proposed by an Active Member or Associate Member and seconded by two other Members, may be sent to the Chairperson of the Membership Committee any time before February 14th.

Active and Associate Members may propose one candidate each year and second a different candidate each year.  Members may not propose or second a member of his or her immediate family. Those serving on the Membership Committee may not propose or second individuals for membership.  The proposed candidate may be a member of another non-GCA club.  The proposed candidate’s name is to remain confidential until the candidate is elected and notified by the President.

The Membership Committee deliberations are confidential.  The Membership Committee screens the proposed names and proceeds to select the new Members by written ballot.  The number of persons selected for membership may not exceed the number of vacancies. Candidates proposed but not elected to membership may be proposed one additional time using the regular proposing procedure.

Upon acceptance new Members will assume the responsibilities and privileges of an Active Member and will be expected, for the first two years of membership, to participate in New Member programs, tours and workshops in addition to regular Club programs and activities.

Active Membership requires consistent involvement in Club activities, including regular attendance at meetings (a minimum of seven meetings is required) and workshops and active participation in Club activities and programs. In addition to member responsibilities, Active Members are strongly encouraged to participate in conservation activities, fundraising and participate in at least one community project each year.

Requests for transfer to another category of membership in writing to the Club President and should be received by February 14th.

Any Member may resign at any time by giving notice of such resignation to the Recording Secretary in writing or by electronic transmission.
